Latest version: 1.0.0 - 3 October 2026

A local address for your visitors. A single workspace for your team.

One installation

One place to maintain

Your own domains

Country domains or subdomains

Your existing content

Built on Joomla's languages

More local on the outside. Just as simple on the inside.

Keep the Joomla site you already manage. Domain per Language connects its content languages to the addresses you want your visitors to see.
01 / A DOMAIN THAT FITS

Let the domain speak the language.

Serve Dutch on your .nl domain, German on .de, or use language subdomains. Each mapped language gets a clean address without its own language prefix.
Example: the same Dutch page
example.com/nl/over-ons
→ example.nl/over-ons
02 / LESS TO MAINTAIN

Grow your reach, keep one site.

Your languages share the same Joomla installation. Manage your content, users and extensions together, without maintaining a separate installation for every domain.
03 / CONNECTED BY DESIGN

The right links. The right domain.

Your menu, your language switcher and your feeds link straight to the right domain: a Dutch page is linked as example.nl/over-ons, never as example.com/nl/over-ons. Old addresses with a language prefix, and the www variant you did not pick, redirect there permanently. The hreflang and canonical tags that tell search engines which page is which follow the same rule.
Also included, also free

Different domains. One connected experience.

Make moving between languages easier for your visitors, and take the guesswork out of managing your domains.
Cross-domain login

Change language. Stay signed in.

When a signed-in visitor follows a link to another configured language domain, their login travels with them using a one-time token. Logging out signs them out across the domains.
Language suggestions

A helpful suggestion. The visitor decides.

Offer an available language based on the visitor's browser preference, with a link to the corresponding page. A dismissible bar gives them a choice instead of automatically redirecting them.
Domain health check

Know what's ready. See what needs attention.

Run a check from the plugin settings for DNS, HTTPS, certificates, redirects and robots.txt. It also checks relevant Joomla session, Language Filter and SEF settings.
Robots.txt per domain

Your domains. Your crawling instructions.

Set separate robots.txt content for each mapped domain from the plugin settings. Useful when each language domain needs its own sitemap reference or crawl directives.
How it works

Your languages. Your domains. Connected.

Already running a multilingual Joomla site? Keep your translations and language associations. Add the domain mapping on top.

Before you start

Joomla 6 · PHP 8.3+ · SEF URLs enabled · System - Language Filter enabled · Published content languages · Hosting and HTTPS configured for each domain.
01

Point your domains to one installation

Configure DNS and your hosting so every domain serves the same Joomla site. Make sure each domain has a valid HTTPS certificate.
02

Match each language to its domain

Install the plugin, select a content language and enter its domain. Add one row per language. The plugin checks for invalid and duplicate entries when you save.
03

Save, then check your language journeys

Open your domains and follow your language switcher. Run the built-in health check to identify setup issues.
Good to know

A few questions. Clear answers.

Check how Domain per Language fits your Joomla website.
Does the plugin translate my content?
No. Domain per Language serves your existing Joomla content languages on their own domains. You create and associate your translated content using Joomla's multilingual features.
Do I need a Joomla installation for every domain?
No. Every configured domain points to the same Joomla installation. Your hosting must serve that installation for each domain, with DNS and HTTPS configured correctly.
Can I use subdomains as well as country domains?
Yes. Map languages to hosts such as example.nl and example.de, or nl.example.com and de.example.com. Each domain belongs to one language, and each language has at most one mapped domain.
Do all my languages need their own domain?
No. A language without its own domain keeps its language prefix on the domain configured for the default site language. You can introduce separate domains gradually.
Will visitors be redirected based on their browser language?
No. The language suggestion feature offers a link when another available language matches the visitor's browser preference. It does not automatically redirect them. Visitors can dismiss the suggestion.
What should I know about robots.txt per domain?
The plugin must receive the robots.txt request to serve different content per domain. A physical robots.txt in your website root can be served by the web server first. Check your server setup; the plugin warns about this file and the health check helps diagnose it.
What are the requirements?
Joomla 6 and PHP 8.3 or newer, SEF URLs, the System - Language Filter plugin, and published content languages. Every mapped domain must point to the same installation. Configure valid HTTPS certificates for your domains.
